70352 – Jestro’s Headquarters Pre-Release Review

By nexoScanner / December 2, 2016

The big news is that wave 3 of Nexo Knights Lego sets have appeared on the UK Lego site with pictures, prices, and release dates.

The sets have not appeared on the U.S. site yet and there's no way to know if the sets will be released in both countries at the same time.  But, let's take a look at the pictures and descriptions and check out what's coming.

The largest set for wave 3, Jestro's Headquarters will retail for £84.99.

  • £84.99 (probably $89.99-$99.99 US)
  • Scheduled for release on 20 Dec 2016 (most of the new sets are scheduled for this date)
  • 840 pcs
  • 6 minifigs: Jestro, Ava, Macy, Lance, 1 Gargoyle, 1 Stone Stomper
  • 1 buildable Brickster, 1 buildable MONSTROX
  • includes Ninja Strike and Mindbender Nexo Power and Forbidden Power - Corrupting Crush

Jestro seem to have outgrown his Volcano Lair from wave 2 and decided to go mobile.  I guess that means wave 4 will bring some kind of good guy base/vehicle as the largest set.

Jestro is radically different in this set. And of course, he is only available in the most expensive set.  He now has a transparent blue head and you can see lightning around his eyes and under his clothes. Macy and Lance get the same treatment as the other Nexo Knights: updated colors and printing, new pauldron.

I almost LOL-ed when I saw the Ninja Strike Nexo power.  The shuriken is from Ninjago and the strike, well, that's not very ninja-like.

70352-jestros-headquarters

If you zoom in on the box image, the minifig lineup in the lower left corner of the box clearly identifies the black lightning cloud as Monstrox!  We finally get a glimpse of what he is.  My guess is that Jestro somehow discovered Monstrox (more likely, Monstrox discovered Jestro).  Through this new alliance, Monstrox found a way to return to Knighton and has given Jestro a new army, a new color scheme, and new powers. This would explain the absence of Jestro's lava monsters and Jestro's transparent blue head could be a sign that Jestro is either significantly more powerful or has been possesed by Monstrox.

Macy gets a tiny Underminer vehicle. Wave 3 sets seem to include a few more blank Nexo Shield pieces that wave 1 or wave 2.

70352-back

There's all kinds of action going on with this set. Jestro's Headquarters looks like a living "truck" with a flying Hatattacka airship. Yes, that vehicle is wearing a jester's hat and that hat detaches from the vehicle and is really named "Hatattacka".  The trailer has a crane and a prison cage. There is a small vehicle called a Stone Wheeler AND a Stone Boat hidden in the back of Jestro's HQ.  Seems strange for an 8-wheeled mobile headquarters to have an all-terrain vehicle and a boat. We also get another glimpse of a Nexo Knight carrying one of the Forbidden Powers.

VERDICT: MUST GET MUST GET MUST GET.  Expensive, but lots and lots of play-ability.

70351 – Clay’s Falcon Fighter Blaster Pre-Release Review

By nexoScanner / December 2, 2016

The big news is that wave 3 of Nexo Knights Lego sets have appeared on the UK Lego site with pictures, prices, and release dates.

The sets have not appeared on the U.S. site yet and there's no way to know if the sets will be released in both countries at the same time.  But, let's take a look at the pictures and descriptions and check out what's coming.

Clay's Falcon Fighter Blaster is one of the more expensive sets at £44.99.

  • £44.99 (probably $49.99 US)
  • Scheduled for release on 20 Dec 2016 (most of the new sets are scheduled for this date)
  • 523 pcs
  • 4 minifigs: Clay, 1 Brickster, 1 Claybot, 1 Buildable Grimroc
  • includes Ticking Baboon and Manic Pumpkin Nexo Power and Forbidden Power - Devastating Decoy

Movable wings, a detachable Squirebot vehicle, a buildable gargoyle monster, AND it combines with the Battle Suit sets.  MUST HAVE!

Like all of the other new sets, Clay gets a slight color and design update.  Clay gets the same pauldron/shoulder armor update as the other Nexo Knights.  Grimroc appears to be about the same size as Infernox, Sparkks, and Burnzie. BUT he has WINGS and a giant mace hand!  Cool.

I am a big fan of detachable vehicles, transforming, and "extra equipment".  The wings on Clays Fighter move and the back of the Fighter is a detachable Claybot Recon Jet. Like a handful of the other sets, the Recon Jet can be attached to Battle Suit Clay or any of the Battle Suits as a powerup backpack.

A high-resolution picture of the back of the box shows some interesting things about the Combine Your Powers feature.  There is a new triple shieldholder and it looks like the Merlok 2.0 app will be updated to allow scanning of 3 shields when they are placed in a one of these special shield holders.  The game screen is pretty small, but you can make out an image of the triple shield in the lower left corner of the game.  The character on the left side of the screen appears to be Battle Suit Clay. It's much too big to be a regular Nexo Knight, it doesn't look like an enemy that I know and when you activate a Nexo Power, most of the time, the power is focused on you.

70351-back

There aren't any closeup images of Clay, but I'm sure it's safe to say that Clay gets the same color/design update on his legs and torso as the rest of the wave 3 Nexo Knights. We catch a glimps of a Bouldron, a new evil minion with a spiked collar. Grimroc...what can I say?  He looks awesome. His wings look like a colored sheet of plastic, but he really does look great.

70351-set

VERDICT: This is one of the sets to get.  I love the look of the fighter, it has wings that move and a detachable Squirebot vehicle that can be combined with any of the Battle Suit sets

70350 – The Three Brothers Pre-Release Review

By nexoScanner / December 2, 2016

The big news is that wave 3 of Nexo Knights Lego sets have appeared on the UK Lego site with pictures, prices, and release dates.

The sets have not appeared on the U.S. site yet and there's no way to know if the sets will be released in both countries at the same time.  But, let's take a look at the pictures and descriptions and check out what's coming.

The Three Brothers is the only set in wave 3 will priced at £24.99.

  • £24.99 (probably $29.99 US)
  • Scheduled for release on 20 Dec 2016 (most of the new sets are scheduled for this date)
  • 266 pcs
  • 3 minifigs: Axl, Reex, and Roog
  • includes Bulldozer Nexo Power and Forbidden Power - Horrible Hunger

Charge Axl into battle against the three fearsome brothers.

Even though there are only 3 minifigs (Axl, Roog, and Reex) in this set, it's obvious that Axl is NOT the 3rd brother.  Roog and Reex's vehicle (with it's angry face and HUGE mouth) must be the 3rd brother...even if he doesn't have a name yet.

Axl has new, more colorful printing on his torso and legs. His giant axe is slightly different from previous versions.  Instead of red globlins, this set will include a few Gravellers (basically gray versions of globlins).  Reex and Roog both have a strange new hatpiece, maybe armor is a batter word. It looks strange and neat at the same time.  Reex must be the youngest brother, because he gets non-bending kid legs. Roog is probably the middle child. He is equipped with normal minifig legs and jumbo fists.

A lot of Nexo Knights sets use technic pieces to build their frame work.  The use of technic pieces results in a lighter frame and allows the vehicles wheels to be connected to the mouth of brother #3 so that his mouth opens and closes as he rolls. I liked the pounding action of Moltor's Lava Smasher and I like the mouth movement in this set too.

70350-three-brothers-boxback

The back of the box shows Axl running away with the Horrible Hunger Forbidden Power. This is a pretty big sign that the Forbidden Powers are scannable powers and will be useable in the Merlok app. Since only a few have been revealed in the upcomign sets, I suspect that the Forbidden Powers will just be a part of the Shield Collection. It is unlikely that we will get a 6th row just for the Forbidden Powers and I think we are also unlikely to get a playable bad guy.  The Forbidden Powers will probably belong to one of the Nexo Knights, just like

VERDICT: The Three Brothers is a fairly simple set.  Although it includes Axl, you can get Axl for less money by purchasing Ultimate Axl or Battle Suit Axl. I like the mouth movement, so I'll definitely be getting one.

70349 – Ruina’s Lock & Roller Pre-Release Review

By nexoScanner / December 2, 2016

The big news is that wave 3 of Nexo Knights Lego sets have appeared on the UK Lego site with pictures, prices, and release dates.

The sets have not appeared on the U.S. site yet and there's no way to know if the sets will be released in both countries at the same time.  But, let's take a look at the pictures and descriptions and check out what's coming.

Ruina's Lock & Roller will be one of 2 sets priced at £14.99.  The other is Lance's Twin Jouster.

  • £14.99 (probably $19.99 US)
  • Scheduled for release on 20 Dec 2016 (most of the new sets are scheduled for this date)
  • 208 pcs
  • 3 minifigs: Aaron, Ruina, Queen Halbert
  • includes Gorilla Roar Nexo Power and Forbidden Power - Wrecking Wrath

Ruina's Lock & Roller looks like a fun set.  Ruina rides a GargoBike and pulls a prison carriage behind it. Motorcyles are awesome and Ruina's gargole bike looks great with it's head and translucent blue claws.  Ruina carries her Forbidden Power on a pole on the prison carriage and for some reason, hitting the Forbidden Power triggers a trap door at the bottom of the carriage.  Not a great way to keep your prisoners, but it still looks neat.

Aaron has new, more colorful printing on his torso and legs. His pauldrons/shoulder armor is updated, and he is equipped with a transparent orange visor AND he gets yet another slightly modified crossbow as his main weapon.

Queen Halbert makes an appearance in this set with real minifig legs, battle armor, and her own mace.  I can't find it right  now, but in one of the Nexo Knight books, Macy says that her mother (Queen Halbert) gives her a shield when daddy doesn't let her graduate from the Knight's Academy.  Queen Halbert was a commoner (she doesn't have royal blood) and she was a warrior before King Halbert married her.

The 2 Nexo Powers in this set intrigue me the most: Gorilla Roar and Wrecking Wrath. There's just something about that gorilla head and the Wrecking Wrath power reminds of of a Super Mario Brothers Chain Chomp.

70349-set

VERDICT: Ruina's Lock & Roller is a maybe.  I really like the look of the Gargobike and Queen Halbert is a nice minifig, but if your budget is tight, I think there are better sets in this wave to get.

70348 – Lance’s Twin Jouster Pre-Release Review

By nexoScanner / December 2, 2016

The big news is that wave 3 of Nexo Knights Lego sets have appeared on the UK Lego site with pictures, prices, and release dates.

The sets have not appeared on the U.S. site yet and there's no way to know if the sets will be released in both countries at the same time.  But, let's take a look at the pictures and descriptions and check out what's coming.

This is an exciting set.  I thought that Lance's Mecha Horse from 2016 was a bit flimsy.  The transforming ability was neat, but mine had a tendency to fall apart in the middle.  Hopefully, Lance's Twin Jouster is more sturdy.  I am looking forward to this set because of it's ability to split apart and attach to ANY of the Battle Suit sets to power up!

The cheapest set in wave 3 will be the King;s Guard Artillery #70347.

  • £14.99 (probably $19.99 US)
  • Scheduled for release on 20 Dec 2016 (most of the new sets are scheduled for this date)
  • 216 pcs
  • 3 minifigs: Lance, Lancebot, and Rogul
  • includes Goose Bumps Nexo Power
  • Combine Lancebot's WingJet Pack with 70366 Battle Suit Lance for extra flying power, or any other suits in the Lego Nexo Knight Battle Suit Series.

Lance's Twin Jouster starts out as a trike, it has wings that can fold out, then his Lancebot can detach the Wingjet to fly around and fight on it's own or combine with Battle Suit Lance (set #70366), while Lance attacks with his Twin Jouster Bike.  Although, I'm not exactly sure how Lance is going to teleport from his Jouster Bike to his Battle Suit.

Lance has new, more colorful printing on his torso and legs. His pauldrons/shoulder armor is updated, and he is equipped with a transparent orange visor.

The squirebots are alright, but Rogul looks really cool.  Great color scheme and Rogul's feet/base is fascinating and it looks like Rogul has 2 face prints, and dark, ominous face where only his/her eyes are visible and another face that appears to be streaked with lightning.  I normally prefer traditional minifig legs, but many of wave 3's enemies have alternate leg parts and I think they all look great.

This set will be a must-have.  It's small, affordable, will have great playability on it's own because of the transforming feature and detachable Wing Jet Pack and it will be even better with one or more of the Battle Suit sets.

70348-set

VERDICT: Get this set and get at least 1 of the Battle Suit sets also.

70347 – Knight’s Guard Artillery Pre-Release Review

By nexoScanner / December 2, 2016

The big news is that wave 3 of Nexo Knights Lego sets has appears on the UK Lego site with pictures, prices, and release dates.

The sets have not appeared on the U.S. site yet and there's no way to know if the sets will be released in both countries at the same time.  But, let's take a look at the pictures and descriptions and check out what's coming.

The cheapest set in wave 3 will be the King;s Guard Artillery #70347.

  • £7.99 (probably $9.99 US)
  • Scheduled for release on 20 Dec 2016 (most of the new sets are scheduled for this date)
  • 98 pcs
  • 2 minifigs: 1 King's Guard, 1 Stone Stomper
  • no Nexo Powers included

This set is meh.  I kind of link the six-shooter, but it's just a really good way to lose pieces.  The 2 spears at the front of the artillery unit are connected to the rear wheel.  If you look closely at the pictures, when the wheel is pushed forward, the spears extend forward too.

The new bad guy minions are called Stone Stompers.  I think their black, grey, and purple color scheme looks great and the lightning hammer that comes with this minifig is much more exciting than the spear that the King's Guard has.

70347-stonestomper

I'm not a big fan of the small Nexo Knight sets, but if you are (or have) a young child, you'll probably enjoy this set.

VERDICT: Get this if you need to collect everything or if you are younger.  Otherwise, save your money for one of the bigger sets.

Monster Battles Book Review

By nexoScanner / March 12, 2016
  • DK Readers L2: Lego Nexo Knights: Meet the Knights
  • Author: Julia March
  • Binding: Paperback (perfect bound)
  • Publisher: DK Children
  • Published: March 2016
  • List Price: $3.99

DK Readers are part of a 4-level reading system designed to develop children's reading skills, fluency, grammar awareness, and comprehension. Depending on your child's reading abilities and your school system, the age which your child can fluently read the L2 book will vary.  Most likely, this L2 reader will be most appropriate for a 1st or 2nd grade child.

Meet the Knights is a 46-page book.  36 pages of story, a 2-page quiz to test reading/listening comprehension, a glossary, an index (tells you which page each character can be found on), and a 2-page Guide for Parents to give you tips on reading with your child.

There are 6 scannable Nexo Knights Shields in the book. In order of appearance:

  • Nexo Blade (part of the logo on the front cover)
  • Raging Rally
  • Thunder Blaze
  • Lava Dragon
  • Stronghold of Resolution
  • Swift Sting

Unfortunately, none of the Shield Powers in this book are new or unique. 4-6 year olds will probably have fun hunting for the shields. The shields aren't "hidden", but sometimes they are tucked away in a corner of the page.

If you have ever purchased other DK Readers paperback books, Meet the Knights comes with the same level of quality.  It has the same good quality cover, nice semi-glossy pages, big print, and lots of pictures featuring Lego Nexo Knights characters and a handful of the wave 1 Lego sets.

$3.99 USD is the regular price for most of the DK Readers books (not just the Nexo Knights books).  Buying this book by itself would probably result in a shipping of a few dollars (and not really worth it).  If you are already making a purchase on Amazon and if your children enjoy the Nexo Knights cartoon or Lego, it's definitely worth adding onto your order.
